Home environmental liability policy

Increasing concern

An increasing number of homeowners are facing long periods of personal and financial uncertainty as their local authority takes action to clean up contaminated land in their jurisdiction under Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The complexities of deciding who is responsible for cleaning up contaminated land can take months or even years, leaving householders to cope with the fact the property may be seriously blighted and facing a highly unpredictable future. Click here for our list of contaminated land case studies from across the UK.

A simple solution

An environmental report goes some way to identifying whether or not contaminated land is an issue, however Countrywide's Home Environmental Liability Policy offers householders the full protection they need against the financial implications resulting from their property being contaminated. What's more, a claim can be made on the policy as soon as the local authority notifies the homeowner that their land is contaminated and we can act quickly to remediate their property.

Key benefits

  • Cover is available with or without an environmental report, and in 9 out of 10 cases we can provide cover where there is a 'failed' environmental report.
  • Covers all costs and expenses in order to comply with any remediation required by the local authority (whether or not a remediation notice has been issued)
  • Covers any shortfall in the market value of the property when sold in the future, following a claim on the property
  • Limits of indemnity up to £5 million
  • A choice of either a 10 or 15 year period of insurance
  • All policies automatically cover successors in title and include a free 10 year, 5% per annum Escalator Clause
